Mission & Vision
Our Mission
The Institute for Neurofunctional Psychology (INP) advances preventative, educational, and translational initiatives grounded in nervous system science, human development, and self-regulation.
INP exists to address the conditions that make later psychological distress more likely by teaching foundational regulatory skills early—before patterns of dysregulation, disconnection, and maladaptation become entrenched. Through education, research-informed frameworks, and public-serving programs, INP equips individuals, families, educators, and communities with the skills required for emotional awareness, regulation, relational safety, and adaptive functioning across the lifespan.

Our work emphasizes education rather than treatment, focusing on universally relevant human capacities that support learning, wellbeing, and long-term health.

Our Vision
We envision a future in which self-regulation is recognized as a foundational human skill, not a clinical intervention—integrated into education, community systems, and public life as a prerequisite for learning, connection, and resilience.

INP seeks to contribute to a societal shift away from reactive, downstream models of mental health and toward upstream, preventative approaches that support nervous system stability, agency, and relational capacity before distress becomes identity-defining or pathological.

Guiding Principles

INP’s mission and vision are informed by several core principles:

-
Regulation precedes cognition
Safety in the body supports clarity in the mind. -
Connection to self is foundational
Sustained connection with others depends on sustained connection with oneself. -
Regulation is learnable
Emotional awareness and self-regulation can be taught as universal life skills. -
Prevention is developmental
Early education during critical windows reduces later burden on individuals and systems. -
Regulation is relational
Self-regulation strengthens co-regulation, repair, and relational stability.

Our Role

The Institute for Neurofunctional Psychology operates as an educational and translational organization, not a clinical treatment provider. INP does not diagnose or treat mental illness. Instead, it translates established scientific knowledge from neuroscience, developmental psychology, attachment science, and stress physiology into accessible educational frameworks that support lifelong resilience and health.
